Car technology is always changing, and so is the skill-set needed for auto-mechanics who work on them.
Onondaga Community College is partnering with Tesla for an internship program.
The goal is for these opportunities to lead to full-time positions for their automotive technology students.
Telsa representatives were on campus Tuesday to talk about the plan. They say electric vehicles are giving students new ways to learn in the field.
Meanwhile, school staff members hope this program will recruit more students who may not have thought of a career in the field before.
"Basically the benefit of this is that it's going to encourage people. When you have something available to young minds, it allows them to contemplate the possibility of going in that direction," said OCC student Anton Prusakov.
The school hopes the program will also appeal to environmental technology students.
