Voters in Onondaga County will get something new when they head to the polls on Election Day. "I voted" stickers will make their debut in the county.

This is the first time the Onondaga County Board of Elections has ever handed them out on Election Day -- and for a special reason. The stickers, which all polling places across the state will have, commemorate the centennial of women's suffrage in New York State.

The design was chosen by voters, and the stickers are provided free of charge by the state's women's suffrage commission to all counties. Election Commissioner Dustin Czarny says the feedback has been positive so far.

"If people feel better leaving the polling place with a sticker on, and we can remind people that New York State gave suffrage to women a few years earlier than the nation did back in 1917, then this is a good thing," Czarny said.

Czarny said they'll have to see how this year goes before deciding if they'll continue using stickers in the future.
