The victory tour continues for Governor Cuomo, as he announces winners of downtown revitalization grants. The latest stop was Cortland. Brittani Moncrease has more from the Cortland Repertory Theatre where Governor Cuomo delivered his presentation.

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The news coming from Governor Andrew Cuomo received standing ovations all around Friday inside the Cortland Repertory Theatre for an achievement this entire community can be proud of.

Cuomo announced that Cortland won first place in the second-round of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative for Central New York.

Cortland will receive $10 million to improve its downtown area.

The city submitted their first proposal last year, so this has been long in the making. There were 104 other proposals submitted from different areas in the region.

With the $10 million grant, the city plans to make the area more walkable, improve downtown housing and upgrade the Main Street to attract more visitors and businesses.

Governor Cuomo says Cortland's proposal was a plan in which utilized much of the city's resources, including the college.

"Those places that excel in taking great ideas from great schools and turning them into businesses -- those are the places that are exceeding,” said Cuomo.

A couple other proposals in the plan that I want to mention is the City also hopes to improve parking, make free Wi-Fi available throughout downtown and construct a downtown stage for entertainment.
