TRUMANSBURG, N.Y. -- The manhunt involving a former Trumansburg Police officer has ended in Tioga County.

Tompkins County Sheriff's deputies say Andrew Jacobsen was arrested in Tioga County by State Police around 7:30 Wednesday night. He's now being held in the Tompkins County Jail.

Jacobsen was initially arrested Tuesday night and taken into custody without incident. He was caught allegedly trying to steal thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from a home.

He was being held at the Trumansburg Police Station when the chief says he shoved an officer and managed to escape. Police believed Jacobsen had help eluding police, and they will be following up with those individuals.

"He was going to have a quick smoke break,” said Trumansburg Police Chief Thomas Ferretti. “He pushed the officer before he could get the cuffs on and then he fled. I think he went around the building and down the street.

"This search went all over the place,” Ferretti continued. “Needless to say, we had tracking dogs and all that, but we just couldn't seem to get him.”

Jacobsen spent two years as an officer with the Trumansburg Police Department.

"He got terminated by myself, dismissed for drug usage about four years ago,” said Ferretti. “Since then, he's had a stellar criminal career."
