CARY, N.C. -- Cary residents took advantage of an IKEA public meeting Thursday night to learn about their proposal to open a store at Cary Towne Center.
The store would be located where the empty Sears store now stands.
Both IKEA and residents in the area believe the store will contribute to the local economy.
“Both through jobs such as the 500 construction jobs and 300 co-workers who will join the Ikea family, and then of course for the tax revenue that will generate through the local governments,” said IKEA Public Affairs Manager Joseph Roth.
“It’s going to take a mall that’s dying and everybody saying what are we going to do with this empty building and it’s going to revitalize this whole area so it’s fantastic,” said Cary resident Stephen Stanko.
The store could open as early as summer 2020.
