OSWEGO, N.Y. -- A large fire in Oswego impacts multiple apartments and several businesses. There are no serious injuries to report.
A few people were taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
Crews from several departments were called in around 9:15 a.m. Saturday, when the fire first broke out on West Bridge Street.
The building housed 11-to-14 apartments upstairs and three businesses on the ground floor, including a smoke shop, copy center and Paura's Liquor Store.
Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow tells us firefighters spent more than two hours battling the flames. At one point, part of the building's wall collapsed right in front of them.
The Mayor says despite cuts made to the department, this response shows they can still get the job done.
"This is why a fire of this size, this is why we have all these mutual aid agreements, so that when something like this happens it's more than Oswego Fire responding and it's demonstrated here today," Barlow said.
"They did an amazing job, absolutely, everyone here has been working very hard to get this fire under control," said Anne Demm, Oswego resident.
The building is expected to be demolished.
Some homes behind the building have smoke damage.
The cause is still under investigation.
