Dozens are urging the mayor to keep a promise to preserve a treasured green-space on the North Shore.
The Goodhue Center hosted a rally Wednesday, calling on the city to complete the sale of its New Brighton property, which is home to the Children's Aid Society.
Advocates worry about the sale's fate after funding for the purchase was left out of the city's executive budget.
For more than 10 years, the Parks Department has been working out a deal to acquire the property from the Children's Aid Society to create a public park.
The organization says it would use money to construct a new community center, which would expand services for hundreds of youth across the borough.
Borough President James Oddo says he is willing to throw taxpayer dollars into the deal if the mayor agrees to put-up the rest of the money.
"If it is 15 million or 18 million, I am willing to take six million dollars of the taxpayers money that I get to allocate and put it to this because that is how strongly I believe in this property. That's how strongly I believe in this community center," said Borough President James Oddo.
We reached out to City Hall and are still awaiting comment.
