ITHACA, N.Y. -- The city of Ithaca takes its name from the island off the coast of Greece and this weekend, the community is celebrating that heritage.

Saint Catherine's Greek Orthodox Church will hold their 5th annual Taste of Greece fundraiser this weekend.

Visitors will be able to taste everything from lamb and beef gyros to grape leaves and baklava. A gift shop is also selling Greece-related trinkets.

Organizers tell us this is the chruch's biggest fundraising effort of the year, taking in about $26,00 each year.

Church leaders are hoping to use that money for repairs and upgrades.

"Nothing that we do is other than to help our church. We have a dwindling community like a lot of other chruches and we're trying to support our church," said Sophia Georgiou King Chairperson for St. Catherine's Orthodox Church's Taste of Greece Festival.

Taste of Greece runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
