GATES, N.Y. -- The Gates Police Department has a consumer alert to pass along after finding some fake, $100 bills circulating in the community.

Police say the fake money  is stamped "for motion picture use only" but has passed as cash in a couple of sales transactions.

Gates police say several residents have reported receiving the bills for payment for products sold online and at garage sales.

The most recent scam involved $250 worth of items bought and sold online.

"It looks very close to real money. On the back is a little less detailed," said officer Lance Duffy, Gates Police Department. "The front is more detailed. To an average person, some money is brand new and has a different feel for money that has been weathered."

If anyone has any information about the fake movie money, they are asked to call Gates Police at 247-2262.
