This week's weather is not being wasted by those who enjoy seasonal sports. For skiers and snowboarders hitting the slopes didn't seem possible just two weeks ago.

"We normally come like every Thursday so it was kind of like planned and we just kind of lucked out cause we had a snow day so it kind of helped," said Gage Smith of Dryden in between trips down the slopes at Greek Peak.

Families from around the region had the same idea with the day off from school Thursday: Hit the trails at Greek Peak -- although just two weeks ago avid skiers had their concerns.

"I was wondering two weeks ago I was up for an afternoon and it was getting pretty thin. I was gone last week. So I wasn't here and so at that poing I was wondering how it would be when I got back," said Marsh Sorber of Vestal.

"It not only appeared that way but I was skiing in a T-shirt. I was the last one on the lift that day it was 70 degrees," said Jeff Bercuvitz of Ithaca.

Add a couple of feet of snow on the ground, and some regular Greek Peak visitors are thrilled.

"It is clearly the best skiing I've seen at Greek Peak in a decade. This is absolutely fabulous snow and its all natural," said Harriet Higgins of Homer.

"There were 19 cars in the parking lot on Tuesday and many more today, so I think we're going to have great skiing for probably three weeks," Bercuvitz said.

The mounds of snow will keep Greek Peak a destination for visitors for the duration of the weekend -- even if Friday is in the way first.

"Rather be here than school.  Yeah its much better than being at school, you get to have fun and hang out with friends," said TJ Osid of Dryden.

With those future visits in the works, Greak Peek officials said this year will have met its mark.

"This came kind of at a perfect time so when it came we knew that we would be able to hit our normal length of the season,"said Kaitlyn Drach.
