Aspiring bird-watchers flock to Flushing to tally-up different kinds of birds.
Participants managed to get their eyes on yellow belly sapsuckers, house sparrows and even some cardinals at the Queens Botanical Garden Saturday.
It was all a part of the 20th Annual Great Backyard Bird Count — which encourages people around the world to document the birds they see nearby, between February 17 and 20.
Organizer Shari Romar hopes the count encourages beginners to take up bird watching.
"My hope is that everyone goes home and says 'Huh. I really enjoyed that," said Queens Botanical Garden volunteer Shari Romar. "'Let me go and get a pair of binoculars.' Or 'Let me go and get a field guide and start learning about birds that are in my neighborhood,'" she added.
