Some long-awaited safety improvements are finally complete at one North Shore housing project.

The Housing Authority installed 358 new energy-efficient LED lights throughout the Stapleton Houses.

This is thanks to the "Mayor’s Action Plan," a $140-million effort to improve safety at 15 NYCHA sites across the City.

Residents say they think the new lights are helping to keep crime down.

"It's helping to keep people from standing in the hallways and standing in the elevator shafts and all that. I think it's a good thing," said Resident Sharen Morton.

"It's a lot better than these police lights they have that stay up and you hear them all night long. So we appreciate anything we can get here," said Resident Kevin Deshields.

NYCHA also plans to install closed circuit television throughout the houses.

That's expected to be complete by 2018.
