The Oneida City Police chief is currently on leave after suffering a sudden illness earlier this summer. The Police Benevolent Association has created a GoFundMe page to help offset his medical costs.
Organizers say back in June, Chief David Meeker became suddenly ill and was treated at the ICU at Upstate University Hospital. Organizers will not say what type of condition he is recovering from.
He has now been released to a rehabilitation facility, where he will need intensive therapy. However, that treatment is not being covered by insurance.
"We are here to back him, and we'll do everything we possibly can to help him during his recovery process. We love him; we respect him; we hope that he gets well soon," said Investigator Michael Burgess, a member of the Oneida City PBA.
Organizers say they will hold a fundraising event for Chief Meeker in the coming months. Click here to donate.
