A correction officer has been indicted, accused of raping a female inmate at Rikers Island.
Officials say 36-year-old Jose Cosme forced the inmate to engage in sexual acts with him while she was in custody last November.
Cosme is facing numerous charges, including rape, sexual abuse and sexual misconduct.
Bail was set at $75,000.
Cosme faces up to 50 years in prison if convicted.
Sources tell NY1 Cosme is a nearly 10-year veteran of the Department of Correction and has been suspended.
The department says it has zero tolerance for sexual abuse and assaults of inmates.
Cosme is due back in court September 20.
