As the temperature climbed to what felt like near 100 degrees Thursday, Albany residents did what they could to cool off.

For those like Alyssa Ibarra, that meant bringing her brother and sister to the pool, but not one her siblings are used to going to. The massive sinkhole that formed more than a week ago on South Lake Avenue forced crews to close the Lincoln Park pool near their home to conserve water.

"They went almost every day. It kind of sucks, because then they have to come here," said Ibarra.

"It's unfortunate that we're not open, so giving them other pools is our best option," said Bob Ellis from the Albany Department of Recreation.

Thursday through Saturday, city officials will open pools at Myers Middle School and Mater Christi, while also providing buses from the closed Lincoln Park pool to the facilities.

"They're going to be running non-stop," said Ellis. "The plan is for a bus to depart from here every half-hour."

City officials are also reminding residents all of their spray pads are up and running.

"You know, I'm hoping we see that we're not just closing the pool because we want to. We really want to do what we can for them," said Ellis.

Ibarra says she's appreciative there's a place to go.

"When it's hot out, people love to swim, and [the] Lincoln Park pool is so big and a lot of people go there," said Ibarra. "It's just really nice to have options."

Those pools will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Saturday. As for the Lincoln Park pool, it is unknown when the sinkhole will be fixed and it'll be able to open.
