SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse Fire Department put out flames at a vacant home on Craig Street Wednesday night.

The fire was called in around 10:45 p.m. Officials say it appears that the home was vacant but some utilities were still on.

The fire had already caused significant damage to the first floor before crews even arrived on scene.

"A lot of times this time of night, later in the evening, middle of the night if it's a vacant property a lot of times the fire gets advanced before the call just because no one’s living in the residence,” said Syracuse Fire Department Deputy Chief Bob Cussen.

There was no damage to neighboring houses or any reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
