Carmaker Cadillac celebrated the grand opening of a Manhattan showroom in its new home state Wednesday thanks in part to a state grant.
Cadillac opened the showroom, Cadillac House, on the ground floor of the carmaker's headquarters on Hudson Street in SoHo.
The president of Cadillac, Johan de Nysschen, said it will function simultaneously as a gallery, retail space, café, and exhibition area for its vehicles.
Cadillac shifted its headquarters from Detroit to New York last year. The company said a $1 million Empire State Development Grant helped make the move possible.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who attended the grand opening, said it was an indication New York is a great place for business.
"We're soliciting business. We're incentivizing business. We're facilitating business, because what you see here today is what makes New York grow: new businesses, exciting businesses that bring new jobs and new people," Cuomo said at the grand opening.
"Cadillac House is a meeting place where innovators, creators, and the curious can find inspiration and one another," de Nysschen said. "Cadillac House represents our commitment to our new home — to one of the most dynamic locales in the world."
Cadillac House was open to the public as of Thursday.
