The city fire department is trying to figure out how a rooftop fire in Manhattan started Sunday.
It broke out on top of an apartment building located at 438 West 23rd Street in Chelsea around 5:15 p.m.
The flames were under control in about 30 minutes.
"We were just having a quiet Sunday, and then, we were just out in the backyard, and then, I just heard someone yell out there's a fire, and I looked up and, yeah, I just saw flames and black smoke, yeah, it was terrifying," said one witness.
"We looked up and there was blue and black flames, it seemed to be pretty bad," noted another witness.
No injuries were reported.
