CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. -- Sen. Charles Schumer is pressing the Army Corps of Engineers to get the ball rolling on a renovation and upgrade project slated for the VA Hospital in Canandaigua.

Schumer, who visited the facility Tuesday, said $122 million has been secured for the first phase of the project, which will include a new outpatient clinic. Schumer says construction is being held up after oversight of major VA projects was transferred to the Army Corps. That followed delays and cost overruns at other VA projects across the United States.

"It's a time frame, and look; we aren't the only $100 million dollar project in the VA, so we have to make sure we get at the top of the list," said Schumer, D-New York.

The $300 million building project at the Canandaigua VA was announced last year.
