The weather on Sunday morning was a bit of surprise for the thousands heading to NBT Bank Stadium for the Empire State Marathon.
Officials ended up having to delay the race because there were several crashes on surrounding highways and runners were stuck in traffic.
Those who made it out didn't seem to let that weather bother them too much though.
"I woke up to about an inch and a half of snow on my deck. People are brave, ya know. Runners are a different breed, absolutely," said Sean Severance, who participated in the marathon.
"Well I thought it's a little unacceptable for October, I've run in colder, but not this year yet, it's going to be interesting," said Amanda Miller, who also participated in the marathon.
The marathon serves as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.
