New Center in Westmoreland Providing Easier Access to Outpatient Surgery

WESTMORELAND, N.Y. -- A new center is providing easier access to outpatient surgery in the Mohawk Valley.

The Apex Surgical Center in Westmoreland is now open, with 15 employees and 12 specialized surgeons. It offers orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery and pain management.

Doctors say there was a huge need for this, because the closest care facility was a small hospital in Hamilton.

"The object is to make it less expensive for the patient, easier to get to, it cuts down on some of the paperwork and some of the difficulty getting it done. So it's a good place," said Ivan Gowan, an orthopedic surgeon.

The center was built with help from state funding and bonds.
