UTICA, N.Y. -- The runaway train car and locomotive that damaged Union Station nearly two weeks ago are finally being removed.
A worker said weather conditions were ideal Monday morning and the process began smoothly. By the afternoon, officials were working on getting the locomotive back onto the railroad tracks.
"Considering the speed and the impact, it could've been worse, could have knocked the steam engine off the track completely. Right now the steam engine is on the track so it'll make moving it out a lot easier," Adirondack Scenic Railroad Chief Mechanical Officer Chris Talluto.
Talluto says that the locomotive will be removed and the closed-off area was scheduled to open by the end of the day.
