Change is on the way for one of the most visited places in the Finger Lakes as crews broke ground Tuesday on the transformation of the Taughannock Falls State Park overlook area.
The $1.9 million project includes upgrading parking lots, and adding new picnic areas, restrooms and a community room.
The construction will also help reduce run-off into Cayuga Lake.
The idea is to expand on the local landscape and history while also encouraging visitors to further explore the area.
"What we're trying to do is tell people that if you enjoy this experience, here is how you can find another experience, that's just 20 minutes away or 30 minutes away, help them move through the communities of New York State," said Fred Bonn.
The project is funded by Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s New York Parks 2020 plan.
It is expected to be completed by May 2016.
