CORTLAND, N.Y. -- SUNY Cortland students now have a brand new place to work out. The new Student Life Center is now open.

An official ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony was held Friday. The center is home to a variety of exercise spaces, from rock climbing walls to an indoor swimming pool. The new building is also certified as a green building since it is environmentally friendly.

"These these lights automatically dim. So if more light comes in, they dim and if less light comes in they become brighter. So it saves us energy," said Dr. Erik Bitterbaum, President of SUNY Cortland.

"Wonderful innovations on reducing the carbon footprint. Critical, as many of you know as climate change runs apace and we need to be bringing down those greenhouse gases," said Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton, D- Ithaca.

A small additional fee was added for students to help with the costs of the new Student Life Center, but they are free to use the facility anytime from 6 a.m. to midnight.
