New York City's 16th District Councilmember Althea Stevens was inspired to run for office after working in youth development for 20 years--she wanted to represent the young people in her community. The biggest lesson she has learned during her time in office is that patience is a virtue.

Stevens would say the biggest challenge she has faced in her role is developing self-confidence. In three words, she would describe her district as "vibrant, loving, and exciting."

For Stevens, an ideal day in her district would be filled with laughter and connection to the community. Her hidden talent is singing karaoke.
