This weekend on In Focus, we’re opening a conversation on community revitalization efforts across upstate New York.
JoDee Kenney was joined by Utica Mayor Michael Galime, who grew up in the city, attended the University of Rochester and served as City Council president before running for mayor. Galime said in his first year in office youth services and recreation were among the priorities that were addressed. The mayor also talked about the project at Utica Harbor, with the land now turned over to the city, that he said will provide opportunities beyond fishing and kayaking. Galime also addressed the budgetary needs to accomplish the city’s revitalization goals. He said with AIM funding and sales tax revenue leveling off, the city is working to make sure property owners don’t shoulder the entire burden.
