The 154th annual Belmont Stakes will be run on Saturday, June 8 at Saratoga Race Course.
Darryl Leggieri, president of Discover Saratoga NY, joins JoDee Kenney to discuss everything else there is to do in the area.
"This is such a great opportunity for us, for our entire destination to shine on the international stage," he said. "I think it's going to be great not only for Saratoga Springs, but for Saratoga County and the entire region. For that matter, we are excited to welcome the world. There’s a lot going on and we were excited to kick off the festivities on Wednesday, June 5, where we're having a live free concert right on Broadway. And just lots of activities throughout the week, to show people that we are ready to host them."
They offer a mobile app to let folks know what's going on, and it's not just about the Belmont, but everything else that happens on a daily basis. There is a Belmont icon that gives you all the information about what is happening during the festival.
"But beyond Belmont, there are so many opportunities throughout Saratoga County to get off the beaten path and explore the outdoor pursuits, or cultural tourism going on, for instance, going to the battlefields and taking in Schuylerville," Leggieri continued. "This is a beautiful time of the year to experience that because you're really these authentic experiences when you when you come into these small towns. I think just really getting out and experiencing all that the county – that includes Saratoga Lake and getting out to paddleboard or boat. We have Saratoga Performing Arts Center which is having a concert on Friday night and of course, Saratoga Casino. There are so many things to be doing that you're gonna be a busy week."
"I want people to come and have great experience. I want them to realize that, you know, we put some thought into their arrival, and that we're ready for them. We wanted to have a great experience while they're here, so that they do go back and tell their friends, their families, and they come back time and time again. It's something that we're pretty proud of this destination. We want to showcase it."
