March is Women’s History Month, and this weekend on In Focus, we open a conversation on the contributions of those who pushed for equal rights and the women at the forefront in the fight to preserve those advances.

Sen. Lea Webb, who chairs the Women’s Issues Committee, joined Marisa Jacques to talk about the Equal Rights Amendment which will appear on the ballot for New York voters in November. Webb said the ERA would solidify abortion rights in the state constitution and expand protections against discrimination to women, LGBTQI+ individuals and all New Yorkers. The senator also spoke about her sponsorship of bills to improve access to reproductive health care as well as maternal outcomes. Webb said, in addition to making care more affordable, programs to educate pregnant women and eliminate disparities for women of color. Sen. Webb also highlighted the creation of the BIPOC Missing Women & Girls Task Force, which advocates say will shed light on cases involving black, indigenous and people of color.
