This weekend on In Focus, we open a conversation as New York’s 2024 Legislative Session begins.
Turning to health care, Assemblymember John McDonald said he supports the governor’s proposal to cap copays for insulin, as costs have risen in recent years. As a pharmacist, he said this is just one aspect of controlling prescription costs for New Yorkers. Ultimately, he hopes to see more transparency in drug pricing to keep insurance premiums in check. In her State of the State Address, Gov. Hochul called for funding to increase access to mental health resources and grow New York’s provider workforce. That’s something McDonald called a major step, and he said he wants to see wages for direct care workers for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities addressed as well.
