New York's capital city is filled with people every day — whether they live there, work there, or are simply visiting. As In Focus takes a look at downtown development plans across upstate New York, JoDee Kenney sits down with Georgette Steffens, executive director of the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District, to talk about what can be done to make the capital city even more attractive to visitors. Steffens says many of Albany’s small businesses were hit hard by COVID-19 — but two $750,000 grants from American Rescue Plan funding could make a big difference for them. She discusses the ways that some businesses were able to stay afloat or even grow during the pandemic, and how those lessons can benefit other businesses — as well as ways that fledgling businesses can work to capitalize on big events that draw people into the city.
