When it comes to infrastructure, the first things to come to mind are often big projects involving highways, railways, bridges, or airports. But some of our most crucial infrastructure is made up of things we might not think about — like the systems we use to power our homes. One community in the state’s capital region is looking to make some of that electricity in its own backyard. On this episode of In Focus, Cohoes Mayor Bill Keeler joins JoDee Kenney to discuss his city’s proposal for floating solar, a green energy project that would see solar panels being built on top of water. It’s a novel approach that could make Cohoes a national leader in new approaches to clean energy. The city is also pursuing other green infrastructure plans, like a project that would convert streetlights to LED. Keeler also discusses maintenance projects including paving and street restorations, and some of the challenges that come along with these projects amid rising construction costs.
