This weekend, In Focus looks ahead to the midterm elections — and the races that will shape New York for the next several years. Before voters head to the polls, they’ll want to be informed on who they are casting their ballots for — which is why the League of Women Voters has been working to make that information as accessible as possible for decades. Erica Smitka is the deputy director of the LWV of New York. She sits down with JoDee Kenney to discuss the importance of voter education, and how the LWV has adapted its mission to address the rise of election-related misinformation over the last several years. Smitka also discusses efforts to get more people out to the polls, and whether some of the hot-button issues surrounding these elections could mitigate the low turnout that midterm elections have historically seen.
Live election coverage begins Tuesday at 8 p.m. You can find our 2022 Voter Guide here. And be sure to tune in for a look inside the biggest issues impacting Upstate New York, on In Focus with JoDee Kenney — every Sunday on Spectrum News 1.
