Black Business Month begins this week, and In Focus is kicking it off with a show focused on Black entrepreneurs. Andre Goodbee is CEO of Goodbee Controls and Electrical Contracting Inc., a business that is just two years old. He joins JoDee Kenney to discuss his experience not just in getting his company off the ground, but conceiving it altogether. Goodbee says he didn’t initially have ambitions of becoming an entrepreneur, but took inspiration from his mother’s own business — inspiration that eventually morphed into ambition of his own. A neighbor “sparked” his interest in electricity, and the local library provided the learning materials he needed to get started — and now, several years and a lot of hard work later, it’s all come full circle.

You can hear the full story of how Andre Goodbee grew his business and his advice for new business owners via the video player above. And be sure to tune in for a look inside the biggest issues impacting Upstate New York, on In Focus with JoDee Kenney — every Sunday on Spectrum News 1.
