In Focus is ringing in July by heading to the park! Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh joins the show to give an inside look at how the Salt City is investing in its parks this summer. He sits down with JoDee Kenney to talk about some of the projects taking place in the city’s parks, including the conversion of a vacant warehouse into a food truck park, and a whole slate of improvements being made to the parks in Eastwood, which include a new playground, a basketball court, and a baseball-themed splash pad — changes made thanks to feedback from the community. He says parks are an important part of any city or town — but especially in urban areas where people may not have backyards of their own. Walsh also discusses the importance of parks as venues, especially in the summer, where they can be used to bring people out for big events and drum up more activity for local businesses.
