In honor of Pride Month, In Focus is highlighting the importance of Pride, and how we can address some of the biggest issues the community is dealing with today. JoDee Kenney sits down with Representative Sean Patrick Maloney, co-chair of the Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus and the second member of Congress to legally marry a same-sex partner. Maloney says that with a lot of discussion on the national level around LGBTQ+ rights in the wake of legislation like Florida's so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill, it’s important to keep pushing to have more rights enshrined into law, like protections against employment discrimination. Maloney says it’s critical that the state work to address systemic inequalities that continue to plague the community, especially its transgender and non-binary members.
