Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown joins In Focus this week to talk about diversifying city leadership, business development, and sports – wrapping up March Madness and looking ahead towards the new Buffalo Bills stadium set to be built in Orchard Park. First, though, he discusses efforts to curb crime in the wake of a shooting that left three police officers injured, and the city’s continued efforts to show support for Ukraine as the refugees continue to flee the besieged country.
Brown also discusses some brighter topics, like Buffalo’s economic boost from hosting several games amid March Madness and uplifting small, minority-owned businesses through the Broadway Market as it enters the busy Easter season. He says the market has played a crucial role for Black-owned businesses in the Buffalo community and he’s hoping it can serve as inspiration for communities across the state. Brown also discusses the city’s progress in creating a more diverse city government, with his own staff being the most diverse in the city’s history. And he talks about the deal that’s been reached on a new Buffalo Bills stadium, saying he says the arrangement will be good for Buffalo, even with the new stadium set to be built in Orchard Park over the city proper.
