Ryan Corbett is back with his family after spending nearly 900 days in Taliban custody.

The Livingston County man landed in Texas overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday and embraced his family on the tarmac. He was released in a prisoner exchange this week.

There has been no word yet on when he will return to New York, but he faces a long road to recovery. During his detention, family members say his health declined significantly due to his living conditions.

Corbett's family says they are overwhelmed with gratitude to be reunited, but they are asking for time to heal and recover.

Corbett had been living in Afghanistan with his family at the time of the 2021 collapse of the U.S.-backed government and was detained by the Taliban in Aug. 2022 while on a business trip. The Dansville man was released as former President Joe Biden handed power over to returning President Donald Trump.
