Last year — on a whim with no belief she would ever actually be chosen — Robin Warren Phillips, who owns Designs of Elegance, a floral shop in Pulaski, got the call of a lifetime.

Each holiday season, some 300 people, volunteers from across the country, are selected to spend a week at the White House decorating it for Christmas.

“It's an honor. You know, I'm from upstate New York, very rural Pulaski. You know, usually when people say Pulaski, they're coming for fish and they're talking about salmon,” she said.

But inside the White House, talk of Pulaski is about Robin. Officials were so impressed with her work that earlier this year, she got another phone call. One that's almost unheard of. She was asked to come back again this year.

"The fact that I was chosen to go back again, part of me felt a little guilty. Maybe it's a little greedy because, you know, they told us last year, thousands and thousands of people apply,” she said.

However, she could not pass up this kind of opportunity, especially when she found out what her job would be this year.

“I was just like, oh my goodness. We're decorating the West Wing,” she said, saying she was part of a team that did the job.

And not only the West Wing, but the Oval Office itself.

“I got to see parts of the West Wing, parts of the White House that the average American will never in their lifetime be able to see,” she said.

The one small downside is the pictures she was able to get last year, and the ones that those who decorated the rest of the White House this year will have, could not happen this year as no cameras or cell phones are allowed in the West Wing. But for Robin, that's okay. She will always have the memories.

“That's something that will never go away,” she said.

Of course, there's also the pretty cool fact that there is someone who will get to enjoy her work.

“The leader of the free world gets to see my work every day,” she said with a smile.

And sometimes that leader, and members of his team, post photos to social media. The background of those photos look pretty good.

Robin said the days leading up to Christmas are the most hectic her store has all season, as people look to get those last-minute creations.
