If you’ve been to a Syracuse University game at the Carrier Dome, a Mets matchup at the NBT Bank Stadium or even a Bills game at Highmark Stadium, you’ve seen his face, or at least heard his voice. But there is a lot more than what you see behind the eyes of “Program Joe.”

“So after my baseball day today, it’s on to the state fair," Joe Godley said as he walked outside of NBT Bank Stadium at 11 a.m., about two hours before first pitch.

What You Need To Know

  • Joe Godley is a 70-year-old veteran

  • Godley has been selling novelty items, concessions and programs at events in New York for over 40 years

  • He says he's sold over 1 million programs in his career

It’s a long day for the soon-to-be 71 year old.

“11/2/50," he said when we ask how old he is. "Figure it out," he says matter of factly.

A day in his life involves a lot of steps.

“This has been like home for 40 years," Godley said.

It also involves a lot of cleaning.

“When you love to do that, it’s nothing new,” Godley said. “The experience that I have, you don’t have to teach.”

All that experience wasn’t just gained at the ballpark. He sells concessions, novelty items, programs and everything in between at events all over the state.

“I’ve sold over 1 million programs,” Godley said. “Over 40 years. You don’t have to count that, I know.”

Big crowds, loud music; those types of events are where Joe’s personality shines.

“You don’t come looking for nobody else, you come looking for Joe," Godley said.

“Time to go do some work. It’s after 12 o’clock, so you can drink. Yeah, we dance too," Godley said to a group of four patrons visiting the ballpark for the first time.

He connects with everyone.

“You’ve got to be a people’s person to do this. You’ve got to," Godley said.

Everyone connects with him.

Godley says he doesn't plan on retiring anytime soon, because he's doing what he loves to do.
