How much do you like garlic? Some people were put to the test Saturday in an attempt to break the world record.

“I think this is it for my bowels tonight,” said Dameon Fuller as his 41 cloves of garlic were being counted into a bowl in front of him.

What You Need To Know

  • Several people attempted to break the world record for eating the most garlic cloves in one minute

  • The current record is 36, but you have to exceed that number by five to make a new record

  • You can only eat one at a time, and you have to swallow one before you start eating another

  • You are also allotted one glass of water to complete the minute

Dameon is trying something he’s never done before. He’s going to try to eat all 41 cloves of garlic, in 60 seconds.

“I believe, that’s what my grandmother taught me,” said Fuller before diving into the pile.

Despite his best efforts, he came up short from reaching the goal. But he wasn’t the only one to try.

“I have like an infamous reputation I guess in my family for loving garlic so much,” said Adam Leadley.

He wanted to beat the record so bad, he made two attempts in the same afternoon.

“It’s more pride than bravery, because I just really, really want to get that record,” said Leadley.

Leadley came the closest of anyone to beating the record that tried on Saturday, but he still didn’t come close enough.

“You can only eat and swallow one at a time, it has to be down your throat before the second one can enter your mouth,” said Angry Garlic owner Jeff Rogers. “You’re allowed one glass of liquid which is water, that’s all they allow you to drink is one glass of water, and that’s it those are the only rules really.”

The current world record is 36 cloves in a minute, but you have to beat it by five, for a total of 41.

“We actually applied for this back pre-COVID, and we were accepted and then COVID hit of course and everything got postponed and postponed,” said Rogers. “We got permission from Guinness to have it on this date so we’re rockin’ it out, something fun, different, and garlic restaurant, why not go for the world record.”

The current record holder keeps their title another day.
