Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start of summer, and this year is shaping up to be more traditional than last year.
The lifeguards at Oneida Shores County Park have been getting the beach set up. It officially opens this weekend and will be open from 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. on weekends through Father’s Day. It will also be open on Memorial Day. On June 18, it will be open daily.
What You Need To Know
- The Oneida Shores beach will be open from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on weekends through Father's Day
- Oneida Shores features picnic areas, a campground, a boat launch and picnic shelters for reservation
- The capacity will be opened
“Specifically, it’s exciting that it’s almost normal," said Gary Lopez, the superintendent at Oneida Shores Park. "Last year we were able to open and we were very grateful that we got to open, and I think the public was really appreciative that we were able to open, but there [were] lots of guidelines.”
A lot of the capacity rules from last year are gone, so you can rent the shelters for parties and events.
“Stay with your people and give people distance," said Lopez. "We certainly have enough space here on the beach that we’re not overly populated where everybody is right on top of each other, so there is the space like that.”
This is the only Onondaga County beach that will open this summer. Unfortunately, Jamesville Beach will be closed, because there is a lifeguard shortage.
