Standing in front of a microphone, surrounded by Frank Sinatra memorabilia, radio host Don Giovanni is in his element.

The 35-year veteran is back on the air, at the station where it all began.

What You Need To Know

  • Don Giovanni worked in radio for 35 years

  • The Don Giovanni Show first aired in 1991

  • The show airs Saturdays at 6 p.m. and Sundays at noon

“The Don Giovanni Show” has been a staple in the Southern Tier since the spring of 1991, and the host has built quite the following.

“You never know who you touch. You never know. Sometimes the emails come in, text messages. My phone lit up like a Christmas tree last week," he said.

Giovanni has always done it old school, putting CDs in by hand and pressing the play button. But for the first time in years, the pandemic kept him off the airways for part of 2020.

“I really tried hard to keep the show going last year through the pandemic when I was with another station, but I was not able to do it live and I love live radio,” said Giovanni.

Then, one day, he got a phone call from WNBF host Doug Mosher to return for a swan song at the station where it all began.

“So I looked up, ‘what does swan song mean?’ It’s the song the swan sings right before they die. I said 'wait a minute,' " said Giovanni.

Now, he’s back to where he was given his first radio job in the late 80’s, hosting Saturdays with Sinatra as well as the Italian House Party on Sundays.

And the community is thrilled to have him back.

“I’m here for my listeners. This is comfort for them, sense of normalcy if you will, and Sinatra. He’s for a song for every occasion, every way you’re feeling,” said Giovanni.

"The Don Giovanni Show" airs every Saturday at 6 p.m. following the "Bill Flynn Polka Show," and Sundays at noon.
