Have you lost money recently? There's a chance you could find it through the New York State Comptroller’s office.

Currently, there is $64 billion of unclaimed funds in the state, with more than $67 million just in Onondaga County. Although $1.5 million is claimed, many of it still goes unnoticed. Some of that money belonged to people at the Dewitt Community Library.

“That can’t all be mine,” said Jeffrey Bowe when he saw his amount.

To see if you have any unclaimed funds, just go to the state comptroller’s website. Click on “Unclaimed Funds” and search your name. If you show up, you can file a claim online or by mail.

It all comes from dormant accounts that banks, insurance companies and corporations are forced to turn over to the state.

"Wherever these funds are coming from, you think it'd be their responsibility,” said Amanda Waldron.

Despite attempts to notify people, many times the money goes unclaimed.

"I moved from that address probably 12 years ago. Maybe a bank account I forgot about. I was probably about 10 and forgot about it,” said Simon Myhill.

And, even if you don't have lost money, you might know someone who does.

"This should be a happy day for an awful lot of people,” said Bowe.
