Local kids are working together to help the homeless in Syracuse.

Students at Moses DeWitt Elementary collected donations throughout the month and put together care packages today so they could learn about kindness.

The kit includes snacks, water, and a handwritten note from the students.

“The fourth graders, third graders are coming up with such special messages to write in their cards saying things like 'you matter', 'you're important', 'we care about you'. I think that's just feeding into the younger kiddos and they're realizing what it means to be kind and spread that kindness in the community,” said Moses Dewitt Elementary teacher Michelle Duffy.

The care packages will go to the Syracuse Rescue Mission and will be used by the street outreach team to build trust with the homeless.
