Experts are constantly trying to get an edge on treating illnesses like Lyme disease. They're putting their minds together on the problem during the two-day Lyme & Tick-Borne Disease Summit in Syracuse that wraps up on Friday.

They're discussing topics like preventing bites, tick surveillance and immune responses to infections.

It's also a chance for experts to hear and learn from people who have first-hand experience with Lyme disease.

"If you are going to play in the brush or you are going to cut firewood or do things like that, make sure you check yourself after that," said one professional in attendance. "You shouldn't stop doing those things. Although, I can truthfully say I used to run on trails and I try not to do that because I am too nervous. My socks are definitely up over my pants and my shirt is tucked into my pants when I'm outside."

Friday features a panel of people living with Lyme disease.
