Dolgeville residents are still cleaning up following last week’s catastrophic flooding in the community. But this weekend, they’re not alone.
Volunteers from across the community, as well as across the state, assisted residents on North Main Street with the damage left behind from the floodwaters. It was part of a coordinated effort between members of the community and volunteer organizations.
These volunteers bring supplies, while also cleaning homes and mucking out basements. That assistance is being recognized by members of the community.
“I know a lot of people saying it's overwhelming, just the support they're seeing, even from the outer areas that are reaching out us to help to try to help everyone get back up and going again,” said Larry Comstock, a Dolgeville resident.
North Main Street was an area that was hit particularly hard from the storm, after floodwaters from the East Canada Creek flowed through the neighborhood.
Lifelong residents say they’ve never seen this type of damage in the area.
"This area has been prone to flooding for as long as I can remember, being a lifelong resident of the area, but never, never to this point of devastation,” said Christine Reynolds, chairperson for the non-profit Dolgeville Forward.
Dolgeville is one of several communities throughout the Mohawk Valley that is still cleaning up the damage left by the storm.
