Yancey's Fancy has been producing cheese in Western New York for more than 9 decades. You can find their 40 flavors of cheese at local favorites like Wegmans, Tops, or the Kutter's Cheese Factory store in Corfu, New York. Jamiese Price takes us inside in this edition of Explore New York.

CORFU, N.Y. -- Kutter’s Cheese Factory has been in the cheese business since 1923.  The factory was founded by German immigrant Leo Kutter, then located in Bennigton, New York.

More than 20 years later the factory found a new home in Corfu, New York, about 40 miles outside of Buffalo.

The distance isn’t a problem for customers like Sonja Simpson who drives from Penn Yan, which is nearly 90 miles away.

“I like real good cheddar, aged,” Simpson said.  

“We’re known for our aged cheddar, our 3 year, our 5 year and our 15 year,” said Heather Bailey, co-owner of Kutter's.

Heather Bailey and her husband Brian, own Kutter’s and are partners with Yancey's Fancy factory right behind the store. She says the close proximity helps keep prices low and customers coming back.

 “There’s no middle man. We act as the outlet store for Yancey's Fancy so we’re able to keep our prices lower,” said Bailey.   

There are over 40 different cheese flavors including their best sellers.

“The Buffalo Wing, Steak House onion, and we have a brand new one that just came out the grilled bacon cheese burger,” Bailey said.  

Customers can sample them all. They even offer shipping to people who can’t make it to the store.

Richard Kutter’s dad founded the factory he’s amazed at its growth.

“Business is continuing and now they’re in a $20 million expansion. I can’t get over it you know. When we sold the manufacturing operation we had 30 employees now they have over 120 employees," said Richard Kutter, a former owner.  

And they’re cranking out a product that’s had people coming back for decades.

“You gotta provide the highest quality product and don’t make any short cuts in quality, and that gives you the reputation to be successful,” Kutter said.  

That recipe of success has stayed with the company for more than 90 years.
