Saturday looks rather uneventful, with scattered snow showers back in the forecast on Sunday.

1. Comptroller: Homelessness in New York has grown sharply
Homelessness grew by 53.1% from January 2023 to January 2024, more than four times the rest of the nation, driven by the influx of asylum seekers in New York City, with more than 140,000 homeless.
2. Syracuse men's basketball heads south to take on Clemson
Coming off a 17-point comeback victory over the weekend against Notre Dame, Syracuse carries momentum into a Wednesday road game against Clemson. Syracuse has won three of its last four, thanks to the return of J.J. Starling.
3. Watertown mayor: State police investigation involves city council members
In a social media statement Wednesday, Mayor Sarah Compo Pierce said seven New York State Police officers spoke with councilors about the investigation during Tuesday night's council meeting.
4. Multiple buildings a total loss after massive fire on Main Street in Ovid
A water conservation order is now in effect in the village as efforts to fight the fire depleted its water supply. Residents are being asked to be mindful of running the tap, showering and washing dishes until further notice to save water.
5. Trump administration cancels travel for refugees already cleared to resettle in U.S.
Thousands of refugees are now stranded at various locations around the globe. Refugees are distinct from people who come directly to the U.S.-Mexico border with the goal of eventually seeking asylum in the U.S. Refugees must be living outside of the U.S. to be considered for resettlement and are usually referred to the State Department by the United Nations.
6. Ichiro Suzuki, CC Sabathia, Billy Wagner elected to Baseball Hall of Fame
Suzuki received votes from all but one of the writers who voted, meaning that former New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera remains the only player to be elected to the Hall unanimously. Sabathia was elected with 86.8% of the vote and Wagner was elected with 82.5% of the vote.
