One of the most popular and well-known rock bands of our time will be performing in the JMA Wireless Dome later tonight. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to take the stage at 6:30 p.m. tonight in front of more than 30,000 spectators.
It’s been a busy week to get ready the facility ready to host the concert, but everything is expected to be ready to go.
Throughout the week, about 10 tractor trailers were used to bring in heavy equipment to set the Dome up with a stage, speakers and other audio equipment for this show.
What You Need To Know
- The Red Hot Chili Peppers take the Dome stage tonight in their first Syracuse appearance since 1991
- Arrive early, as more than 30,000 people are expected at the show
- Officials say to have your ticket downloaded and ready on your phone before arriving
This will be the only stop in the northeast United States this year for the Chili Peppers, who have a strong following around the world. The band, known for hits like “Give It Away,” “Under the Bridge” and “Scar Tissue,” hasn’t been to Syracuse since performing at the Landmark in 1991.
This is just the third concert in the JMA Wireless Dome since 2020 after many of the facility improvements were made. Both the Paul McCartney and Elton John concerts attracted crowds of more than 30,000 people.
If you're heading to the concert, be sure to arrive early. Have your tickets downloaded and ready in your phone before you get to campus.
Dome officials said many of the main lots on campus have sold out, so if you don't have a pass already, you'll want to utilize the Skytop lots for parking. However, be mindful that this traffic won't be like a typical SU game.
"If you haven't pre-purchased a parking pass for the west side of the campus, please do not go down 81 and get off at Adams and Harrison; it just doesn't work," said Syracuse University Vice President and Chief Facilities Officer Pete Sala. “If you Google the Skytop directions, it will take you down Ainsley Drive off of 481 and the 81 exit off of Brighton so you can come up the back and park at Skytop.”
The doors will open at 4:30 p.m., and there are two bands opening at 6:30 p.m.
Sala said many of the local hotels have sold out for the night, while many restaurants also expected quite a busy night before and after the concert. He noted that his staff and crews moved out 350 truckloads of dirt from the Monster Jam show last week.
Dome officials added they'll be using extra caution to make sure guests are abiding by the clear bag policy.
Following the concert, traffic will be temporarily closed on Comstock Avenue to shuttle guests back to the SkyTop lots.
Tickets, as of Friday morning, were still available on Ticketmaster.
