Step one, apply to college.

Step two, be accepted —that same day.

“It's very exciting. I don't have to wait around constantly and refresh my computer. I can just get the answer if I'm accepted that same day,” Jefferson Community College Student Asia Rutherford said.

Now a college student, Asia Rutherford recently took part in a very special program.

It's called Instant Admit Days.

The week of March 13, Jefferson Community College's Admissions office will transform into a one-stop shop.

What You Need To Know

  • Jefferson Community College is hosting a week of instant admissions

  • Students who make an appointment, can apply to the school and be accepted in the same day

  • This allows students to just know immediately whether or not they can begin classes, which is critical for an area like the North Country, which sees so many non-traditional students thanks to Fort Drum -- students who aren't on that same traditional student timeline

Every step you need to take to become a student, it's all taken care of in one visit.

“It's a lot more helpful sitting down somebody else. You're not just going through your computer unsure of what to do. I'm kind of looking up YouTube tutorials of it, so it's kind of helpful having another person here, helping you, guiding you through how to get the application done,” Rutherford added.

It's perfect for a student like Asia who's hoping to break into the world of publishing.

“I just enjoy reading. I feel like it'd be a good fit for me. But as a job, you can like help somebody else's dreams by publishing their book too. So I think it's kind of nice,” she added.

It's also helpful for that nontraditional student, like a soldier or that soldier's family members, who make up quite a bit of JCC's enrollment.

“For example, if a student wanted to start on March 20 in our spring lates US session semester, that cuts down on the amount of time it takes for them to apply and register for classes. We can really make that much more condensed period,” said JCC Director of Admissions Chelsea Marra.

Marra said she absolutely loves this week — saying it also includes the entire process of financial aid, but for all prospective students, it's free.

“We really are dedicated to making college feel accessible to anyone, and I think that this process really opens the door to anyone who might feel that getting started on the application might be a little bit of a barrier for them. So you have a copy of your final high school transcript. Don't mind me taking that,” she added.

That transcript is really all a student needs to go from prospective student to enrolled student.

JCC’s Instant Admission’s Days go from March 13-17.

Prospective students interested in learning more or making an appointment can visit the school’s website and visit the admission’s page.
